Accounts Executive

Job Description – The Accounts Executive is responsible for supporting the finance department by managing daily and monthly accounting operations, ensuring compliance with financial standards, and maintaining accurate financial records. This role contributes to the preparation of financial reports, reconciliations, and VAT returns while supporting the implementation of best practices across accounting processes. Throughout this role, the chosen candidate would be working closely with senior finance leadership to ensure the smooth functioning of internal financial procedures.

The ideal candidate will be involved in the day-to-day accounting operations, supporting financial reporting, reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out daily accounting duties, including the compilation of financial documentation and timely posting of transactions
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and prepayments to ensure accuracy of the Trial Balance
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records within the accounting system
- Perform bank and balance sheet account reconciliations regularly
- Assist in the preparation and submission of VAT returns, and other tax-related filings
- Ensure compliance with internal financial procedures, accounting standards, and relevant regulations
- Analyse and address issues arising from day-to-day accounting operations
- Collaborate in the development and improvement of accounting procedures and internal documentation such as SOPs
- Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, financial reports, and year-end closing processes
- Liaise with auditors and assist with audit-related requests and documentation
- Carry out administrative tasks related to finance and assist in other duties as required by the Finance Manager or Head of Finance
- Attend relevant training and workshops to continue developing accounting knowledge and skills
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Sage Software, and other accounting tools
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax compliance
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines independently
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Capable of working effectively as part of a team and independently
Preferred work experience and background
- AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting and/or part-qualified ACCA
- Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles
- Experience in preparing VAT returns, reconciliations, and supporting financial reporting
- Prior experience in a similar role within Construction, Leisure and Hospitality Industry
